PETROV-­TURINGE  Pyotr  Andreyevich (6.6.1887–1943), ethnographer, local historian, folklorist. His research is connected with the study of history, ethnography, and folklore of the Chuvash people of Bashkortostan. In 1927– 30, Chairman of the Chuvash section of the Society for the Study of Bashkiria. In 1928, he took part in the First All-Chuvash Congress on Local History (Cheboksary). In 1929, P.-T. organized a comprehensive expedition to study the culture, economy, and life of the Chuvash people in the Belebeyevsky Canton of BASSR; during the expedition, they recorded about 100 folk songs and other works of Chuvash folklore. Materials of the expedition and Chuvash folk tales collected by P.-T. are kept in the scientific archive of the Chuvash State Institute of Humanities (Cheboksary).
