SALAVAT
“SALAVAT”, Bashkir ethnic song, kyska-kuy. First registered by L.N. Lebedinskiy from B.M. Magadeeva in 1937 and published in “Bashkort khalk yirdary”. The song is lyroepic. It glorifies Salavat Yulaev and denounces the tsar, the nobles, Bashkir bais (rich landlords) and murzas (aristocrats). The melody can be characterized by the absence of ornamentation. It resembles a cantilena. The dominance of tonic triad sounds and quart intonations as well as mode variability are the distinctive features of the melody. The professional performance of “S.” has a fast tempo so that it sounds heroical. The melody of the song is used in “Karlugas” opera by N. K. Chemberdzhi, in “Emelyan Pugachyev” opera by M.V. Koval, in “Salavat Yulaev” opera by Z.G. Ismagilov, in “Mountain eagle” ballet by K.F. Akhmetov and N.G. Sabitov, in the Symphony for the Bashkir ethnic instrumental orchestra by D.D. Khasanshin, in sametitled symphonic poem by A.S. Klucharyev, in “Bashkir Suit” by Z.L. Kompaneyets and others.
