SILVER CORD
“SILVER CORD” (“Shiy kandyra”), i n t e r r e g i o n a l f e s t i v a l - c o m p e t i t i o n o f f o l k d a n c e o f E a s t e r n M a r i. It has been held in Kaltasinsky district since 2011 once every two years in order to preserve, develop, and promote the traditions of folk cho reography, music, costume, songs of the Mari people, as well as to strengthen cooperation between the regions where the Mari population lives. In different years, the festival was attended by the representatives of cities and districts of Bashkortostan and other regions of the RF. The festivalcompetition incorporates a parade of dance groups, exhibitions of decorations and decorative art “Folk craftsmen”, and ethnographic display stands. In 2013, participants of the festival set a world record in the category “The world’s longest EastMari folk dance “Kandyra” (2,300 m), which was registered in the Russian “Book of records and achievements”.
