SURA-BATYR
“SURA-BATYR”, a monument of Bashkit literature, epos. It has a poetic and prose form. The stories about Surabatyr were registered at different times by K.G. Gabitov, K.M. Diyarov, Kirey Mergen, R.K. Nasyrov, B.G. Akhmetshin. The epic is based on the plots of Bashkir lores and kubairs about Surabatyr which were collected by G.B. Khusainov. The epic tells the story about Surabatyr’s parents: Crimean biy (nobleman) Narlyk and his wife, the beautiful Minsylu. They had to leave their native lands and settle among the Bashkirs near the Yaik river. There Sura was born, who, according to the epic traditions, became a batyr in a short time. Once a prophetic dream awakened him. He had seen himself among the defenders of the Kazan khanate, so he decided to undertake a campaign. The batyr accomplished a lot of feats. The name Surabatyr can be also noticed in the Bashkir shezhere; in the “Akbuzat” epic, he is the father of Khauban. A stela was installed at the spot where he was presumably buried, near Kazmashevo village, Abzelilovskiy District, RB in 2012.
