TEVKELEV
“TEVKELEV” (“Taftilyau”), the Bashkir ethnik song, uzun‑kyuy. First variants of the song were recorded by S.G. Rybakov and published in The Music and Songs of Ural Muslims with an Essay of Their Everyday Life book. Lyric and drama song. Named after A.I. Tevkelev, Major General of the Russian army. The appearance is connected with the 1735–36 Uprising. The song expresses the anger and contempt of the people towards A.I. Tevkelev, who showed cruelty to a civilian population during the suppression of the Bashk. uprisings. One of the poetic versions of T. mentions the names of the uprisings leaders, Akay Kusyumov and Kilmyak Nurushev. The pentatonic of the major inclination forms the basis of the T. melody, which is characterized by the variability of the metro-rhythmic structure. The song is richly ornamented with an intra-syllable opera, giving melodies colorfulness, expressiveness and especial breadth of the tune. Arrangements were made by A.M. Kubagushev for voice and piano and G.Z. Suleymanov for kuray.
