MIST
“MIST” is a Bashkir ethnic song, uzun‑kuy. First the lyrics were registered in 1937 in Kukkuyanovo village, Durtulinskiy District, BASSR from Z. Khabibullina. They are published in the “Bashkir ethnic art” book (1st v., 1954). The song is lyrical. “T.” was composed at the beginning of the 20th c. The legend told by S. Zaynullina from Karimovo village, Uchalinskiy District RB, delivers a story about Maftukha from Kozhayevo village. She was the wife of a Bashkir from Tungatarovo village. (Both villages were in Troitskiy District, Orenburgskaya region, now Uchalinskiy District). The family life of the newly married couple does not go well and they decide to divorce. One day during the migration Miftukha sang the song that reflected a deep longing for her beloved person. People called the song “T.” The melody is based on a major pentatonic. It is richly ornamented by intra-syllabic chants. Musical adaptations for a mixed a cappella choir, solo and piano were made by A.K. Gabdrakhmanov.
