KHAMAK
KHAMAK, k h a m a k - k u y, 1) is a style of performing pieces of art in Bashkir folklore (bayts, senlyau, spells, zaklichkas, counting-out rhymes, certain poetic parts of epics, fairytales, legends). K. may also be associated with an action, for example, with dance (K. dance), game (game accompanied by K.). There are different K.: chanting (the sounds of the same pitch are repeated), proper recitative (without melody), chanting-recitative (synthesis of melodies and narration). K. can be characterized by a narrative manner of performance, moderate tempo (semitoneless mode units consisting of 3, 4, 5 sounds), clear tempo-rhythmic structure, combination of a sound and a syllable, etc. Ethnic musical instruments are used to increase emotional effect of K. 2) is the same as bywords (see Minor humorous genres).
