KHAUBAN
KHAUBAN is the main character of the “Akbuzat” epic. He continues the great activity of his great-grandfather Ural-batyr who was fighting for people’s happiness and social justice. K. shoots a golden duck with the flintlock rifle that had belonged to his father. The duck turns out to be Nerkes, the daughter of Shulgan the tsar of the underwater. Batyr followed her advice and was self-possessed, dexter and fearless, which helped him to catch Akbuzat. K. defeats evil powers with a damask sword and the help of Akbuzat. He turns Shulgan into a tortoise, Kakhkakha into a bat, diyus into reptiles and leeches. K. carves the lake that belongs to Shulgan with his sword and creates earth, he defeats Masim-khan and sets his slaves free, the herds, which belonged to the father of his bride Nerkes, he gives to the poor people. Having released 7 batyrs, who had been sold to slavery by Masim-khan, K. makes them the heads of 7 Bashkir clans. He prohibits shooting swans -descendants of Khumay. The character also appears in the “Miney-batyr and tsar Shulgen” epic.
