KHISAM
“KHISAM”, “K h i s a m’ s s o n g”, Bashkir ethnic song, uzun-kuy. The melody was registered by Z.G. Ismagilov from M.I. Galeeva in 1947 and published in “Bashkir ethnic songs” collection (1964). The song is lyro-epic. Presumably, the author of the song is Khisam-sesen from Muynakovo village, Userganskaya Parish, Orskiy District (current Sredniy Muynak village, Zianchurinskiy District, RB). He was a participant of the Patriotic war of 1812. According to legend, Khisam-sesen had composed the song and had been singing it throughout his life. “K.” melody has a wide range (twelfth) and wide chants as well as rich ornamentation. Musical adaptations of “K.” for solo and piano, a cappella choir are made by Ismagilov. The song is also known under names such as “Father’s sorrow”, “Uskelek” (after the river’s name that flows in Zianchurinskiy District of RB).
