FOUR HUNDRED BASHKIR FOLK SONGS
“FOUR HUNDRED BASHKIR FOLK SONGS” (“400 Bashkort khalyk yyry”), a collection of folk songs and instrumental melodies in the Bashkir language (Ufa, 2011). Compiled by F.Kh. Kamayev, N.D. Shunkarov. The major part of the collection consists of the recordings from the music collections of the Institute of History, Language, and Literature and the Institute of Arts. Kamayev’s introductory article describes the musical and poetic art of Bashkirs, the history of studying ethnic music, and attempts to classify works according to genres. The note part includes songs and tunes recorded in the 1980s. The works of vocal and instrumental music are systematized by genres: beyets, kubairs, kyska-kyuy, takmak, uzun-kyuy, khalmak-kyuy; tunes. Some of the songs are given in several versions that characterize the variety of musical dialects and styles of performance. The comments contain information about the consultants.
