“SHAGIBARAK”, is a Bashkir ethnic song, uzun-kuy. It was first written down by S.G. Rybakov in 1894 from Abdrakhman Davletov in Yuluk village of Orskiy District of Orenburgskaya region (current Baymakskiy District, RB) and published in Music and songs of the Ural Muslims and their household descriptionunder the name of “Barakov”. The song is philosophical. According to legend, the song tells about a soldier, Shagi Barakov from Bikkulovo village (Abzelilovskiy District of RB). He was exiled to Sibera as a counterfeiter. Before he was exiled, he had asked his neighbors to sing the song in memory of him. The song was called “S.” According to another version, the main character opposed his native lands’ colonization and was exiled to Siberia. However, he escaped several times and hid near the Irendyk mountain chain. The melody has a wide range (twelfth), rich ornamentation and an abundance of chants. The melody ascends to the twelfth in the beginning and then gradually descends to the tonic. Its form is a period that consists of 2 sentences, the latter of which is a variational repetition. M.M. Valeev made the musical adaptation of “S.” for children’s choir and piano, for violin and piano. The song’s melody is used in “Dancing Suit” for a symphonic orchestra.
