INFORMATION AGENCIES, state or private enterprises that collect, process, store and disseminate most recent information through print and electronic media. In 1906, the first Telegrams of St. Petersburg Agency were received and published in Ufa. Between 1914–17, they were published in Belebey, Menzelinsk and Sterlitamak. After the creation in 1918 of the Russian Telegraph Agency (ROSTA), the Guberniya Department of ROSTA (UfgubROSTA) was established in Ufa in 1919. In 1920, the Bashkir Obl. Department of ROSTA (BashROSTA) was established in Sterlitamak. In 1922, these two departments were united. In the early 1990s, due to technological development, the telegraph agencies were renamed into information agencies. In the RB, there are the following I.a.: Bashinform and the ITAR-TASS representative office in the RB.
