AZAMAT, the Bashk. folk song, uzun kyuy. First recorded by M.H.Khismatullin in 1937, published in the Bashkort Khalk Yirdary digest. Lyric song. Appeared during the existence of a canton system of government. According to a legend, the song is sang by a man before his death. It reflects the thoughts of a man who has seen and experienced a lot in his life.The tune is characterized by a wide range, slow tempo and ornamental inter-syllable chants. The descending movement gives the melodies a special expressiveness. The A. cover versions for voice and piano were made by Kh.F. Akhmetov, R.A.Murtazin, D.D.Khasanshin; for choir a cappella by R.V.Salmanov and M.P.Fomenkov; and for a soloist and a choir by A.G.Tikhomirov. The song’s melody was used in the Aihylu opera by M.M.Valeyev and N.I.Peyko.
