THE AKSAKOVSKY PEOPLE’S HOUSE, a monument of history and architecture of the beginning of the 20th century located in Ufa (5a, Lenin Street). The legal decision to construct the building as a center of education and the arts was adopted in connection with the 50th anniversary of the death of S.T.Aksakov. On October 20th, 1908 a building committee was established, headed by Governor A.S.Klyucharyov. The project was compiled by architect P.P.Rudavsky based on drafts and technical drawings by A.S.Klyucharyov. The ceremonial laying of foundation took place on the 14th of September, 1909. In 1914, a library named after Aksakov was created in the erected part of the building. The actual building of it took place between 1928–35 (by architect B.I.Bay). It has two main facades. In the design there were Western European and Eastern architectural styles: the motifs of the Renaissance period (on Lenin Street) and also, a close to Moorish style (on Pushkin Street). The building was reconstructed in the middle of the 1980s and 1990s, and then again in 2000, and 2013–14. In 1918, it got the name of The Palace of Labour and Arts. Between 1922–65, it housed the Bashkir Drama Theatre, and at the same time, between 1932–76, the Puppet Theatre. Since 1938, the Opera and Ballet Theatre has been located there.
