ALMUKHAMETOV, Gaziz Salikhovich [29.10.1895, Derevnya Staromuraptalovo of Orenburgsky Uyezd of Orenburg Gub. (Kuyurgazinsky Raion of the RB) — 10.7. 1938, Ufa], Singer (lyric tenor), Composer, Public Figure (music). People’s Artist of the BASSR (1929). Since 1932, he worked at the Ufa Music School and at the Bashkir Research Institute of Language and Literature. He had a beautiful voice of wide range, his performing art was characterized by bright expression. The first performer of classical arias and romances, as well as the songs of Soviet composers in the Bashkir language in his own translation: the arias of Lensky from opera Evgeniy Onegin by P.I.Tchaikovsky, etc. Together with S.Gabyashi and V.I.Vinogradov he created operas Saniya (1925) and Worker (1930), as well as Solemn March for symphony orchestra (1929) and a number of songs. He was one of the organizers of the Bashk. Studio at Moscow Conservatory, the initiator of opening the Bashkir Philharmonia. In 1937, he was subjected to political purges and executed by shooting. Rehabilitated in 1957. The name of A. was assigned to the Republican Boarding School (ref. G.Almukhametov Republican Boarding Gymnasium).
