AMANTAY (Amantayev), Gabdulla Gareyicevh (23.2.1907, Derevnya Verkhne-Kunakbayevo of Orenb. Uyezd of the same name gub. (now Selo Verkhne-Kunakbay of Perevolotsky Raion of Orenb. Obl.) — 10.7.1938), Writer and Philologist. Member of the Union of Writers of the BASSR. Studied in the Khusainiya Madrasa. Graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Philosophy and Linguistics in 1931. Since 1921, Executive Secretary of Tok-Churansky. Since 1924, Head of the Department of Argayashsky and Zilairsky Cantons Committees of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League. In 1925, Editor of The Youth of Bashkortostan newspaper. Between 1926—28 — The Young Pauper newspaper. At the same time, since 1927 – Editor-in-chief of the Tat. and Bashkir Bureau of the Central Committee of the All-Union Leninist Young Communists League, and Head of the Press Department of the Bashkortostan Oblast Committee of the All-Union Leninist Young Communists League. Since 1932, worked in the Institute of Oriental Studies of the AS USSR in Moscow. Between 1933— 37 (intermittently), Director at Bashkortostan Institute of Language and Literature and at the same time – Department Chairman at Timiryazev Bashkir Ped. Institute, Member of the Bashkir Central Executive Committee, and Editor of The Oktyabr magazine in Ufa. Author of the Songs of the Struggle (1927) collection of poems and others, as well as The Little Friends (1928) and The Diligent Vali (1928) books for children, etc. A. was among the first philologists who began to study the Bashkir folklore and the problems of its relationship with literature. Author of Students’ and Teachers’ books for learning and teaching the Bashkir language and literature at general education schools. He studied the creative works of Sh.Babich, A.M.Tagirov and D.Yultyy. Delegate of the 1st Congress of Soviet Bashkiria Writers in Ufa in 1934, and the 1st All-Union Congress of Soviet Writers in Moscow in 1934. In 1937, he was subjected to political purges and executed by shooting. Rehabilitated in 1957.
