ANIMATED FILMS, a type of cinema art works which are created by phase-by-stage shooting of drawings and three-dimensional compositions. In Bashkortostan, the first animated film was shot in 1967 by A.M.Valeyev (The Adventures of Petya Petrushin, a puppet film). In the 1980s, animated films were made, the basis for which were instructive stories with a simple plot: Old Fortress (1981), Homo sapiens (1982; both of which were made by L.V.Golovkin and Agidel Film and Photo Club), etc. The further development of professional animation is connected with the activities of the Bashkortostan Film Studio.  In  1994  a  musical  titled  Little Spider [a receiver of a prize of the Firyuza Meetings International Film (Ashkhabad, 1995)  and  the  Russia  Non-Fiction  Film (Moscow, 1997) festivals] was filmed, in 1999 based on the Bashkir and Russian fairytales – an animation Bag of Deceptions (a receiver of the prize of the Open Film Festival of Animated Cinema in the town of Tarusa and the Message to Man International Film Festival in St. Petersburg; both – in 2000), in 2005 – The Lion and the Hare was filmed (a winner of the Golden Minbar International  Muslim  Cinema  Festival). The  Bashkortostan  Film  Studio  created such animations as The Grouse and the Fox and The Akchura Village from the Bashkir Kulyamas series (both – in 2007), The Side Where the Wind Is (2010), The Son of a Hunter (2011), The Silly Wolf (2012), Aldar and the Gray Wolf (2013), Neither Down, nor Feathers (2014), The Requiem (2015), which became winners and prize holders of various festivals. Bashkir animators, including both natives and non natives of the republic, regularly participate in a growing number of projects. Since 2003, a children’s television series Smeshariki has been created in the Petersburg Studio of Computer Animation (St. Petersburg). Two of the authors of the idea are the natives of the RB: A.E.Malginova and the project director S.M.Shaikhinurov. Between 2004–06, the Pilot Moscow Animation Studio worked on the creation of the animated cartoon series named The Mountain of Gemstones based on the tales of the peoples of Russia, in which R.A.Sharafutdinov (Sheydullathe Lazy, 2004; jointly created with S.V.Gordeev), V.N.Bayramgulov (The Bird’s Foot, 2005) participated.
