ASYLYKUL
ASYLYKUL (in translation from Bashkir — brackish lake), Ayirkul, Yerupkan, Yerbatkan, Karatabynkul, the largest in the RB, a lake in the basin of the Dyoma River, in the SE of the Belebey Upland, in the territory of Asylykul Natural Park. Surface area — 23.5 km2, length — 7.1 km, aver. width — 3.3 km, aver. depth — 5.1 m (max. — 8.1 m), volume of water — 119 million m3. It has an outlet. At high water level, Asyly-Udryak Creek flows from A. (tributary of the Dyoma River). The north-west shore is gentle; south-west shore is steep and erosive. According to the legend, Tashlytau Mountain once stood on the place of A. During a violent thunderstorm it collapsed and a lake appeared in its place. A large flat stone rises from the water. It is called Hyukhylu Tashy (from Bashkir, literally, — Khyukhylyu’s Stone; ref. Zayatulyak and Khyukhylyu).
