GEOGRAPHICAL ATLAS

GEOGRAPHICAL ATLAS, a systematized collection of geographical maps, published in the form of an album or a book. There are atlases of the world, continents, countries (in terms of coverage); general geographic, thematic, complex (in terms of content); educational, tourist, road (for purpose), etc. The earliest collection of maps, showing the geographical objects in the territory of the RB are the maps of the populated areas by Idrisi (compiled in 1154), the Catalan world atlas of 8 maps by A.Cresques (1375—77). In the Western European atlases of the 16— 17th centuries the territory of the RB is specified as Bashkirs, The Bashkir Horde. Drawings and maps, including The Drawing Book of Siberia of 23 maps by S.U.Remezov (1699—1701), appeared in late 17th — early 18th centuries in connection with the systematization of geographical explorations. The Atlas of the Russian Empire was compiled of 37 maps by I.K.Kirilov in 1734, The Atlas of the Orenburg Guberniya — in 1744, The Landscape Maps or Geographical Drawings, Showing the Orenburg Guber­ niya with Adjacent Areas (by  I.Krasilnikov) — in 1755, The Factory Atlas — in 1977. Atlas of the Bashkir ASSR was published in 1976, Atlas of the Republic of Bashkortostan — in 1992, General Geogra­ phical Regional Atlas The Republic of Bashkortostan — in 1999, Atlas of the Republic of Bashkortostan for students of elementary schools — in 2001 (in 2003 — in the Bashkir language), Automobile Atlas The Republic of Bashkortostan. Ufa — in 2004, Atlas of the Republic of Bashkortostan and Atlas of the Republic of Bashkortostan (maps scale 1:200000) — in 2005, Historical and Cultural Encyclopedic Atlas of the Republic of Bashkortostan — in 2007.
