AKHMETOV, Khusain Fayzullovich [6.1.1914, Derevnya Chingizovo of Orsky Uyezd of Orenburg Gub. (Baymaksky Raion of the RB) — 8.1.1993, Ufa], Composer, Music and Public Figure. People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1989), Merited Artist of the RSFSR (1974) and BASSR (1967). Laureate of BASSR Award named after Salavat Yulayev (1968). Awarded with the Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1971). Order of the Badge of Honour (1949, 1954). He studied at the Bashk. Studio at Moscow Conservatory between 1932—38 in the class of solo singing, between 1936—41 and 1944— 45 — in the class of composition. Between 1941—44, he worked in the Republican Radiofixation Committee at the People’s Commissariat of BASSR, between 1946— 74 — Artistic Managing Dir. of the Bashk. Philharmonia. One of the first professional composers of the Republic. He creatively developed the traditions of the Bashk. folk music, using the peculiarities of uzunkyui in his works. Among his works there is ballet Mountain Eagle, operas Contem poraries and Nerkes (co-authored with R.A.Valiullin), symphony Chronicle, Bashkir Lyrical Suite, cantata Zdravitsa. A special place in A.’s artistic work is given to vocal music (about 400 songs and romances, 12 vocal cycles, 18 ballads and 4 poems for voice and pianoforte). He is the author of chamber instrumental works, music for a number of drama plays, vocal, instrumental and choral adaptation of songs and folk tunes; the compiler of collection of Bashk. folk songs. Between 1948—53, he worked as Chairman of the Board of the Union of Composers of BASSR, between 1976—87 — as Chairman of the Choral Society of BASSR. The Bashkir Philharmonia was named after A.
