BAYMAKSKY RAION

BAYMAKSKY RAION, located in the SE of the RB. Established on August 20th, 1930, under the name of BaymakTanalyk(ov)sky Raion. Since September 20th, 1933 has its current name. In 1956, part of Matrayevsky Raion territory amalgamated with B.r. Territory — 5,431 km2. Adm. centre — Baymak, which is located 489 km SE from Ufa and 35 km SW from Sibay Railway Station. Population — 38.9 thous. people (2017). In 2018, the area of agricultural lands amounted to 323.3 thous. ha (61.7% of the total area, ranks 1st in the RB), including arable lands — 139.2, hayfields — 55, pastures — 129.1 (1st place in the RB); forest area — 162.6, and surface waters — 2.6. Agricultural enterprises [19 agricultural enterprises, 311 peasant (farmer) farms] specialize in the cultivation of grain, meat and dairy cattle breeding, horse breeding, sheep breeding, bee­keeping and fish farming. The raion accounts for the main part of the strong and hard varieties of wheat grain produced in the RB. On the territory of the raion, there are: Baymak Casting and Mechanical Plant, OOO Semyonovsky Rudnik, Road Construction and Maintenance Administration, Motor Transportation Company; workshops for mare’s milk sublimation, woodworks, meat and milk processing, natural stone processing, and production of both solid fuel boilers and solid fuel. Highways: Magnitogorsk (Chelyabinsk Obl.)–Ira and Sermenevo–Amangildino–Baymak. There are: Zauralsky Agricultural College, a branch of Ufa Fuel and Energy College, 62 general education  schools  (including 22 secondary, 19 elementary and 21 middle schools), 14 pre­school educational institutions, 66 groups of pre­school education under the 51 educational institutions, a centre of children’s activities, stations of young technicians and young naturalists, a music school, youth’ sports school; a central hospital and 2 rural hospitals, 6 rural outpatient hospitals, 63 medical and obstetrical centers, the Talkas Health Resort; 55 clubs, 43 libraries, the G.Suleymanov’ Museum, Baymaksky and Temyasovsky local history museums, Museum of Virgin Lands, and the Irendyk Historical and Landscape Museum and Reserve. In the raion, there are 27 folk and 6 exemplary amateur art groups.
