BARAG, Lev Grigoryevich (31.12.1910, Kiev — 4.9.1994, Ufa), Folklorist and Literary Critic. Dr.Sci (History, 1969), Full Professor (1970). Merited Scientist of the BASSR (1977). Laureate of the BASSR Award named after Salavat Yulayev (1987). Graduated from the 2nd Moscow University (1931). Between 1951—94, worked in BSU. Scientific work is dedicated to the study of Eastern Slavonic and Turkic mythical epic, and history of the Russian literature in the 18—20th centuries. Participated in the work on the History of Bashkir Soviet Literature (in 2 vol., 1963—66). B. developed the plot classification of the Bashkir tales by the Aarne—Thompson Tale Type Index. One of the authors of the introductory articles and comments to the collections Bashkort Khalyk Izhady and Bashkir Folk Art.
