BATYRSHA, Gabdulla Galiyev, Gubaidulla Magzyaldin [born BahadurShah Ali uly; ca. 1709 (according to other data, 1717) — 24.7.1762, Schlisselburg Fortress], Ideologist and one of the leaders of the 1755—56 Bashkir Uprising (ref. Bashkir Uprisings of the 17—18th centuries). Since 1734, he studied at the madrassa in Taysuganovo and Tashkichu derevnyas of Kazan Guberniya. Since 1744, served as a Mudarris in Gayninskaya Volost of Osinskaya Doroga, Techinskaya Volost of Isetskaya Province, Derevnya Karysh of Siberian Doroga (now Derevnya Verkhnekaryshevo of Baltachevsky Raion of the RB), where he founded a madrassa. In 1755, in an appeal to the Muslim population of the region he defended the social, econ. and religious interests of the nonRussian peoples and called for an armed strike, withdrawal from Russia and the establishment of an independent Muslim state. In 1756, in Derevnya Azyak of Yeldyakskaya Volost of Kazan Doroga (now Derevnya Azyakovo of Burayevsky Raion of the RB) was captured and handed over to the authorities. In 1758, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Schlisselburg Fortress. He died in a fight with prison guards.
