THE BASHKIR WEDDING
THE BASHKIR WEDDING (Bashkort Tuyy), a drama. Written in 1926 by M.A.Burangulov. The play consists of three acts and five scenes. The plot is based on the love story of Yuldybay and a beautiful maiden Gulzifa. After the sudden disappearance of Yuldybay, Gulzifa’s father Yangilde decides to marry her to a richman. Contests are held where Yuldybay, who has returned, wins, but the head of the canton orders to forcibly take away the girl for his brother to marry. Then the people, indignant at the violation of ritual rules, begin to advocate for justice and for the young couple to be reunited in their love. The premiere of the play took place in 1928 on the stage of the Bashkir Drama Theatre (directed by V.MurtazinImansky; folk music, adaptation by I.V.Saltykov; stage designer S.I.Nikandrov).
