BASHKIR STATE UNIVERSITY, founded in Ufa in 1909 under the name of Teacher’s Institute, since 1919 — Institute of People’s Education (between 1922—24 — Practical Institute of People’s Education), since 1929 — K.A.Timiryazev Pedagogical Institute, since 1957 — the current name and status, and between 1958—92 — K.A.Ti miryazev Pedagogical Institute of the 40th Anniversary of October Revolution. The University comprises 10 departmentz: Bashk. Philology and Journalism; Biology; Geography; Engineering; Mathematics and Information Technologies; Psychology; Ro mance and Germanic Philology; Philology; Philosophy and Sociology; and Chemistry). Institutes: History and State Management; Law; Economics, Finance and Business; Physics and Technology. Branches in Sibay, Sterlitamak, Neftekamsk and Birsk. Also, there is the College of BSU. Graduates are awarded the qualification of a Specialist, Bachelor and Master. Fulltime and distance learning training is available. There are: postgraduate training programs, postdoctoral programs, and councils for defense of Doctoral theses. More than 100 textbooks and monographs are published annually in the University. The Vestnik (Bulletin) of Bashkir University journal, Kafedra newspaper, etc are published. More than 150 thous. specialists have graduated from the university by 2018.
