BASHKIR CENTRAL SHURO
BASHKIR CENTRAL SHURO, founded on July 20th, 1917, on the 1st All-Bashkir Kurultay (Congress) for the leadership of the Bashkir National Movement. Located in Orenburg, between June–August 1918 – in Chelyabinsk, since December moved to Orsky Uyezd of Orenburg Guberniya. It coordinated the activities of the Ufa Gub. Secretariat of the B.c.sh. and volost shuros (councils). Organized the 2nd and 3rd sessions of the All-Bashkir Kurultay (Congress), the election campaign of the Bashkir deputies at the AllRussia Constituent Assembly. In November 15th, 1917, pro claimed the national and territorial autonomy of Bashkortostan (ref. Farmany). On February 17th, 1918, some members of the B.c.sh. and several Heads of the Bashkir Government were arrested by the Orenburg Gub. Military Revolutionary Committee. At the beginning of April they were released by the Bashkir and Cossack troops. In June, the B.c.sh. resumed its work. Promoted the activities of the Bashkir Government, conducted antiBolshevik propaganda and fundraising for the needs of the Bashkir National Movement, and developed relations with other national movements. After signing of the Agreement of the Central Soviet Power with the Bashkir Government on the Soviet Autonomous Bashkiriya, the B.c.sh. ceased its work. Chairmen of the B.c.sh.: Sh.A.Manatov (since July 1917), S.S.Atnagulov (December 1917 – June 1918), Sh.Babich (December 1917 – June 1918; Acting Chairman), and S.G.Mryasov (June 1918 – March 1919). The B.c.sh. published The Bashkir newspaper.
