BASHKORT KHALK YIRDARY (Bashkir Folk Songs), a collection of folk songs and instrumental melodies (Ufa, 1954). The compiling editors, the authors of the introductory article and comments: H.F.Akhmetov, L.N.Lebedinsky, A.I.Kharisov. It consists of the introductory article in the Bashkir and Russian languages, musical notations (248) and comments (in Russian). In the introductory article, the characteristic of the Bashkir folk music is provided and an attempt is made to classify the genres of musical pieces. The note part includes the songs and folk tunes, recorded in the 1st half of the 20th century. Utilization of phonographic recordings made it possible to record the rhythm and intonation peculiarities of uzun-kyuy (part of the songs is provided in several versions) more accurately and in more detail. The wedding ritual songs, uzlyau and folk tunes, representing the most ancient layer of the Bashkir music, were published in the collection for the first time. The comments contain the information on the per formers and information providers Kh.B.Akh metov, M.A.Baimov, I.Sh.Dilmukhametov, G.Z.Suleymanov, G.G.Ushanov, etc, as well as the summary of legends and the characte ristics of melodies; publications are referenced.
