BASHKORTOSTAN, a poem

BASHKORTOSTAN, a poem. Written in 1918 by S.M.Babich. The form of the work is that of a heroic pathos. The poet, describing what he sees as the unearthly beauty of his native land, calls Bash­ kortostan the abode of lions, the land of verses and songs, the paradise of flowers, and compares it with a spring of living water. The author’s praise contains an appeal meant to raise the spirit of his compatriots and to call for the struggle for freedom and independence. The poem has a hymn­like quality to it and it lauds the native land protection of which is entrusted to the Bashkir batyrs­lions.
