BEPENYA TOROPBERDIN
BEPENYA TOROPBERDIN (ca. 1695 — September 1739, Menzelinsky Gorodok of Ufa Province, now Menzelinsk), one of the leaders of the 1735–40 uprisings (ref. Bashkir Uprisings in the 17—18th centuries). In 1735, B.T. participated in the Siberian and Nogai dorogas Kurultay (Congress) of the Bashkir nobility, who decided to organize the counteraction against the building of the Orenburg Military Line Fortresses. Together with Yusup Arykov, B.T. headed the uprising on the Siberian Doroga territory. In the 2nd half of 1735, B.T.’s detachment participated in the siege of the Verkhneyaitskaya fortress. In the letter of the Chief of Chancellery of Sib. and Kazan mining plants to V.N.Tatishchev, B.T. accused the government of violation of the conditions of Accession of Bashkortostan to Russia and provided proof confirming the right of the Bashkirs to defend their interests and even separate from the Russian Empire. In 1737, the brigade of B.T. (over 1 thous. people) fought for Birsk and Kungur, Krasnoufimskaya Fortress, Kataysky Ostrog (jail), Osa of Ufa Province, Chebarkul Fortress, Voskresenskoye and Krylovo selos of Iset Province. In October 1738, arrested by the government team. Executed (wheeled).
