BIKBAY (Bikbayev) Bayazit Gayazovich (9.1.1909, Derevnya Kaltayevo of Orenb. U. of the same Gub., now Derevnya Novokaltayevo of Kuyurgazinsky Raion of the RB, – 2.9.1968, Ufa), a Writer. Merited Art Worker of the BASSR (1957). Laureate of the Salavat Yulayev Award of the BASSR (1970). Awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1955) and Order of the Badge of Honour (1967). Member of the Union of Writers of the BASSR. Between the 1920s — 30s, worked in The Sesen and The Oktyabr magazines in Ufa, Lenin’s Put Tuymazinsky Raion newspaper and Bashkurdistan newspaper. Between 1936–37, member of the commission of the CPSU Bashkortostan Obl. Committee. Between 1939–41, Literature Department Head at the Bashkir State Academic Theatre. Between 1941–43, Chairman of the Board of the Union of Writers of the BASSR. He wrote: When Akselyan Flows (1956), Living Springs (1962) and other works dedicated to the problems of social change in selo. The drama titled Swallow (1939) reflects the position of the Bashk. people on the eve of the Peasant War of 1773—75; the drama titled Salavat (1941) is dedicated to Salavat Yulayev; the Homeland Calls (1943), Swan song (1968) and other drama works — to the events of the Great Patriotic War, etc. B. wrote librettos to the operas: Salavat Yulayev, Shaura, etc., and Z.G.Ismagilov’s mus. comedy titled Svoyachenitsa (1959).
