BIOLOGICAL RESOURCES

BIOLOGICAL RESOURCES, the objects of living nature that satisfy physical and spiritual human needs. There are several types of biological resources, those deriving from the animal world, the world of plants, etc. Genetic resources are of particular importance. Plant resources of the RB cover more than 2.2 thous. species of lower plants and about 1.7 thous. higher plants, in­ cluding about 200 species of medicinal plants, 140 of fibrous plants, 90 of fodder plants, 280 of nectariferous plants, more than 190 of food plants, 70 of ethereal oil plants, 120 of tannins plants and 90 species of dye plants. The forest resources, such as wood, tanner’s bark, turpentine, etc, are an important component of plant resources. There are 20 wood species growing in the RB. Among them are the birch, oak, spruce, linden, fir and pine being the primary forest forming species. The resources of the Republic’s animal world include more than 17 thous. species. Among them: 120 mol­ lusks, about 5 thous. arthropods, more than 50 fish, 12 amphibians, 10 reptiles, 296 birds, and 85 mammals. In order to increase the animal resources of the Republic, the acclimatization of white cupid, peladi, ripus, ciga­ludog, carstolobica, mink American, ondatra and the re­acclimatization of river beaver, maral and bobak marmot are per­ formed. Genetic resources of the Republic are represented by the availability of the hereditary information of bacteria, plants, animals, etc. The Bashkir horse, the Bashkir bee, and others are used in se­ lection. Systematic study of B.r. is con­ ducted at the Biology Institute, the Biochemistry and Genetics Institute, the Bashkir State University, etc.
