BOLSHOY IREMEL

BOLSHOY IREMEL (Kaban, in transla­tion from the Bashkiri dialect, and Mongo­lian — stone saddle), the second highest mountain peak in the Bashkir (South) Urals, a natural monument (1965). It is located 16 km SE of Selo Nikolayevka of Beloretsky Raion. Abs. alt. — 1,582 m. Zherebchik spur lies to the north­west, Sinyak (from Russian — blue) to the south­west rivers Karagayka (tributary of the Yuryuzan River) and Tygyn (basin of the Belaya River) originate at the foot of the mountain. There is an altitudinal zonation of land­ scapes. There are endemics: Lagotis uralensis, Rhodiola iremelica, Saussurea uralensis, Cerastium krylovii, Hieracium iremelense, etc; relicts: Dryas octopetala, Salix arctica, Pedicularis oederi, Andro- sace lehmanniana, Koeleria ledebourii Domin, etc.
