STORM
STORM (Dauyl), opera by R.A.Murtazin in 3 acts based on the novel Irgiz by Kh.L.Davletshina. Written in 1969. The premiere took place at Bashkir State Opera and Ballet Theatre on April 26th, 1969 (libretto by R.S.Yanbulatova, conductor — V.D.Rutter, stage director — Sh.M.Murtazina, scenographer — M.N.Arslanov, choirmaster — L.Kh.Iskhakova, ballet master — L.E.Bo rodulin). The opera reflects the events of the Revolution of 1917 and the Civil War in Bashkortostan. The key plot line is the drama of lovers Aybulat and Gulyuzum, involved in a whirlpool of acute social problems and perishing in the struggle for a glittering future. The musical dramaturgy is multifaceted; it combines lyrical and epic features. The leit motifs of the main characters, based on the bright national music, develop throughout the entire opera. The choir plays a major role in the embodiment of the images of the people, divided into opposing groups and strata.
The 2nd edition of the opera was per formed to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the formation of the BASSR. The premiere took place in Bashkir State Opera and Ballet Theatre on May 6th, 1979 (libretto by R.S.Yanbulatova, conductor — G.Kh.Mutalov, music director and stage director — M.M.Khismatullin, scenographer — M.N.Ars lanov, choirmaster — L.Kh.Iskhakova, ballet master — E.Kh.Tann). The play was awarded the 1st class diploma at the Festival of Russian Musical Theatres (Ufa, 1970).
