VALEYEVA, Banu Nurgaleyevna (14.12. 1914, Selo Shambulykhchi of Kazan Gub. — 24.2.2003, Ufa), Singer (lyrical coloratura soprano), Teacher. People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1955) and BASSR (1947), Merited Artist of the RSFSR (1949) and BASSR (1942). After graduating from the Bashk. Studio at Moscow Conservatory (1938) and until 1966 she worked as a Soloist of Bash kir State Opera and Ballet Theatre, since 1961 — as a Teacher at Ufa School of Arts, between 1969—98 — at USIA. One of the leading masters of the Bashk. opera performance. She possessed a silvery, ringing and gentle voice of instrumental timbre, as well as exceptional musicality and stage pres ence. The first performer of the parts of Tankhylu (Akbuzat, 1942) and Karlugas (the namesake opera by N.K.Chemberdzhi). Uzun-kyuis Ashkadar, Zulkhizya, Tashtugay, Handugas, etc sounded expressively and tremulantly in her performance. G.S.Rodionov is one of her students.
