GABYASHI
GABYASHI, Sultan Khasanovich (born Gabashi Sultan‑Akhmet Khasangatovich; 1.5.1891, Derevnya Maly Sulabash of Kazan Gub. — 8.1.1942, Selo Chelkakovo of Buraevsky Raion of the BASSR), Composer, Folklorist, Public Figure (music). Between 1916—17, he studied at the Kazan University. Since 1932, he worked in Ufa: at the Bashk. Research Institute of National Culture, simultaneously as a Teacher at the Bashk. Technical School of Arts; between 1936—41 — at the Directorate for Arts Affairs at the People’s Commissariat of BASSR. Togetherwith G.S.Almukhametov and V.I.Vinogradov he created operas Sania (1925) and Worker (1930), as well as Solemn March for symphony orchestra (1929). He is the author of musical plays, music for drama performances, pieces for chorus a cappella; choral adaptations of Bashkir and Tatar songs. G. recorded and notated Bashk. folk songs. The samples of folk works, collected in 1932, formed the basis of such collections as Songs of Factories and Plants, Red Army Songs.
