GAVRILOV, Sergey Aleksandrovich (20.9. 1914, Ivanovo‑Voznesensk of Vladimir Obl. — 21.5.1983, Ufa), Designer. Dr. of Engineering (1978). Hero of Socialist Labour (1975). Merited Scientist and Engineer of RSFSR (1974) and BASSR (1969). Laureate of the USSR State Award (1977). Awarded with the Order of Lenin (1971, 1975), the 2nd Class Order of the Patriotic War (1945), Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1957, 1959, 1963), Order of the Peoples Friendship (1980) and the Order of the Badge of Honour (1943). Graduated from the Rybinsk Aviation Inst. (1940). Since 1941 he has worked at the Ufa machine‑building plant (since 1949 as Deputy Chief Designer). Since 1955 as Deputy Chief Designer, in 1962—83 as the Chief Designer at the Ufa Mechanical Engineering Design Bureau. Under his leadership they have developed 22 types of aircraft engines (14 were adopted for serial production) for fighters, attack aircraft and unmanned flying vehicles intended for various purposes. The Academy of Sciences of the RB has established an award bearing his name.
