KAZ UMAKHE
KAZ UMAKHE, Bashkir traditional custom of mutual assistance in poultry (geese, less often ducks) hand plucking process. It took place in the autumn‑winter period after the first snowfall. Girls and young women (usually sisters‑in‑law) were invited to K.u. After plucking and gutting was complete, the geese carcasses, hooked in pairs on a yoke, were rinsed in the river or a pond. On the way, the rite “Goose Road” was performed: children scattered goose feathers, while adult women said good wishes. In the meantime, the hostess organized a tea party with pancakes, cooked on goose fat, and waited for the whole company. In the evening, the festive meal — Ulush, and often Balesh with goose meat and giblets stuffing were prepared and treated to the guests. Honey, millet ale, chak-chak, etc were also served. They sang songs, danced, played various folk games. K.u. is also popular among Tatars.
