BALLAD
BALLAD is a lyroepic genre of ethnic poetry. The genre is melodical, dramatical, it can focus on fantastic events, miraculous occasions, etc., and it is performed by one person. It was registered in Ufimskiy district by the Yazykovs as well as by N.P. Kolpakova in Baymakskiy, Baloretskiy districts, by E.V. Pomerantseva in Duvanskiy, Karaidelskiy, Ki ginskiy, Pokrovskiy districts, Blagoveshchensk city, by the Institute of art studies, folkloristics and ethnology of National academy of science of Ukraine during the expeditioninAurgazinskiy district, by L.I. Bryantseva in Arkhangelskiy, Beloretskiy districts, by F.G. Galieva in Duvanskiy district, Bashkortostan. It was also popular in Russian, Ukrainian and Belarussian folklore of Bashkortostan in the 1920 c. There are unique classic B. about the TatarMongol invasion which have local “Kirghiz” variants: “Tatar captivity”, “Massacre of a girl”, “A girl escapes from Tatar captivity”. The B. that appeared later inherited compositional pecu liarities of the genre and its tragic pathos. Their theme is socialhousehold (“Sister and brothers robbers”, “Robberhusband”, “Robbergirl”, “Cossack killed his wife”, “Husband soldier – his wife’s guest”). Themes of B. are diverse: about poisoning a brother, about a tragic destiny of brothers and sisters, secret love, unexpected husband’s returning from military service, about love, etc. B. registered in Bashkortostan are the monuments of common Slavic culture; repre sented in Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian folklore.
